Recovery Mode: Recovery from a drive
This will allow the operating system to be restored from the recovery drive built into the Sentinel System. ONLY USE THIS OPTION WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS! This will remove all user files and third party applications. You are given the option to clean the hard drive completely. This may be necessary when the Windows® OS has been infected with a virus’ that compromises the systems security or if the user has intentionally overwritten the operating system. To recovery the Windows® operating system and important installed programs:
1. Log into Recovery Mode “r” as User 8.
2. Select the appropriate keyboard type and the “Choose an option” screen should be displayed
3. Select the “Troubleshoot” option
4. Select “Recover from a drive”
5. Select “Just remove my files”
6. This will take a long while and you should see various messages such as “Recovering this PC” and/or “Scanning and repairing drive C:”
7. You should be prompted for Windows settings and approval of the license agreement. If the keyboard selection screen is displayed, select the keyboard and from the “Choose an option” screen, select “Turn off your PC”. The Sentinel Gaming System Login screen will be displayed.
8. Change the login type to Gaming “G” and log in again as User 8. Verify the recovery was successful.
If this fails, repeat the above steps and during step 5 select “Remove everything”.
Once Windows® has been recovered, important Sentinel applications must be transferred and installed:
1. From another computer on the same network as the Sentinel, log into the Sentinel Gaming Systems Account Administrator Log In (https://www.sentinelgamingsystems.net).
2. From the Current Login Screen, click the checkbox “Enable Recovery Drive (User 8 only)”, and then click Submit. Within a few seconds Windows OS should recognize the Recovery Drive. Choose the option to “View the Files”.
3. Double click on the file “Recovery.bat”. The program will automatically transfer files and provide installation instructions. You will be prompted from a pause to “press any key” several times during the process. Follow the instructions given to install the TightVNC Server application. Note you will need to enter both Authentication and Administrative passwords with the same password. That password can be found under the “Advanced Settings” tab in the setting “TightVNC Server Password”.
Once the system is restored you will need to install updates to Windows® and install other applications such as Google Chrome if desired.
